The indoor meeting scheduled for Tuesday 12 January will go ahead as normal, unless there is another heavy snow fall.

Tues 8th Mike Read “Barn Owl”
A return to the group for this well-travelled & much published wildlife photographer, this evening’s talk concentrates on one of our most attractive species of owl.

 

Sun 13th HamWall/Shapwick Heath, Somerset (minibus trip)
We start off our trip progamme with a visit to this diverse habitat reserve hoping to see passage waders and migrants, bearded tit, lesser redpoll and bittern.

Weekend to Northern France
A pioneering trip for the Reading Local Group. A long weekend visiting the coast of Nord-Pas-De-Calais and Picardie. Details available from Peter Spillett.

Robin Nelson- “Birding in Hong Kong”
First time visit to the group for this school master from Marlborough College who has spent much time studying the birds in this former British colony.

St. Nicholas Church, Newbury between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon

 

Sun 18th Virginia Water
A car trip to this local reserve to see mandarin duck and other waterfowl as well as nuthatch, woodpeckers. Let’s hope for a fine autumnal day so that we can enjoy the rich colours of the season

Another familiar name to the Group, this evening Terry will take us on a trip to Southern Europe. Perhaps we shall see some birds that may become more common in this country if global warming continues?

A trip to North Kent for brent geese, pintail and other wildfowl and waders on the mudflats.

Tues 9th John Britten- "From the Antarctic to the Equator”
Come early to be sure of your seat as John returns to take us on a long journey in a short space of time!

 

Thurs 11th – Sun 14th Weekend away to Lancashire
Our weekend away this year is to Lancashire and will include a visit to Leighton Moss amongst other places. More details to follow nearer the time.

Brian last spoke to us about Africa & “The smoke that thunders”. A change of continent tonight as we take an Indian safari.

A car trip to this local RSPB reserve for hen harrier, merlin, short-eared owl, stonechat, plovers, and waterfowl. Map ref: SP570126

Tues 13th Trevor Gunton-“In search of Vikings”
As a change from the purely bird talks Trevor will tonight guide us through this empire in the Atlantic, discovering Norse culture & looking at the scenery & wildlife on the way.

Tues 11th Steve Halliday- “Birds in Anguilla- conservation in paradise”
We are delighted to welcome Steve back to the group. This evening his talk concentrates on Steve’s voluntary work on Anguilla. (You will have to attend to find out where it is!!) This short talk will follow after the Annual General Meeting.

 

Sun 16th Stour Estuary, Essex (minibus trip)
A trip to Essex for woodland birds (including nightingale), estuary birds and a wonderful display of spring flowers.

JUNE

 

Tues 8th Tonight we welcome RSPB staff from the South East regional office, to tell us more about the work of the RSPB at home and abroad.
