ico_arrowAbout us

The Reading RSPB group was formed in 1986 with the aim of promoting the work of the RSPB, through a variety of different activities.

PUBLIC AWARENESS:

The group runs a series of events both indoor and outdoor each year, raising awareness of the conservation work that the RSPB undertakes both at home and abroad.

We run a series of monthly indoor meetings held at Pangbourne villiage hall on the second Tuesday of the month between September and June each year.

We also have a selection of group members that are able to go out to other groups in the Reading / Newbury area to give talks on a wide varierty of bird consveration and wildlife subjects. If you would like more information, then you can download a 'talks leaflet' from here or contact Carl Feltham (details below).

FUNDRAISING:

The group also aims to raise funds for the RSPB and its conservation work, through a variety of ways. We operate a RSPB sales table, which not only is present at all of our indoor meetings, but also goes 'out and about' to various fetes, rallies and shows throughout the year.

We also take part in the RSPB Pin Badge Collection scheme, and maintain a large number of pin-badge boxes in various shops, pubs, vets, garden centres etc in the West Berkshire area. Last year over £8000 was raised by the group by this method alone.

JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT:

The best way to learn about birds is to get out there and enjoy the sight of them in their natural environment. If you'd like to know more about birds, then why not join us on one of our field trips, we are always happy to see new faces and always happy to answer questions.

We also have a variety of social events throughout the year, where over a quiz night or a skittles match you can find out more about other people in the group.

GROUP MEMBERSHIP

The Reading Group operates an annual membership scheme for each season of talks. As part of your membership you receive free admission to our indoor group meetings and complimentary copies of 'The Reading Warbler', the group newsletter.
